This summer I presented my thesis research at the Global Consortium for French Historical Studies in Paris. It was very intimidating, as I was on a manel with 2 Oxford scholars and a well-known published author. I nearly chickened out many times. But I did it! And I got the most questions, which tells me my work is approachable and not too niche to be interesting. After, I was able to connect with a professor who has published works in my field which was great! Then, I was able to smuggle a poster given to me by a worker… but only after I asked for it in French. She pretended not to understand me when I asked in English. I love French pettiness more than anything in the whole world! We managed not to lose it as we trekked across international borders and back again, though I did leave it at security in CDG. I was able to go back and get it though, thank goodness! Yay!
Me with RomaNapoleon. You can’t spell megalomaniac without men!

Presenting my work

Napoleon’s Tomb. We all die someday, to be enshrined in a wooden tomb beneath a giant golden dome, with our war horse skeleton suspended overhead, don’t we?

Resist!
